"Century Galaxy Group: The price of compassion" --- China's first Impact Investing enterprise case being selected into the Harvard Business School Teaching Case Library.
On September 25, the "Century Galaxy Group: The Price of Compassion" - Impact Investment English Teaching Case Conference was held at the headquarters of Beijing Century Galaxy Group. This English teaching case has been entered into the Harvard Business School joint case library. It is the first English teaching case of a domestic enterprise that has topped Impact Investment.
The so-called Impact Investment refers to the investment behavior in which investors intentionally generate positive and measurable social and environmental impact and obtain financial returns.
“Century Galaxy Group: The price of compassion” was first published on September 18. This case was developed by Professor Ciguan Qiu of Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance and Professor Hao Liang of Singapore Management University. Meiling Guo, the chairman of the group, is the decision maker in the case, using Yisheng Health’s capital increase case as the decision-making context to discuss in depth the core issues of impact investment, such as the interaction between the investor and the investee, the promotion of impact measurement and management, and the relationship between financial returns and social returns, etc.
Professor Wiliam Kirby, a “China issue expert” at Harvard Business School, once commented: “At least 80% of the teaching cases of the world’s top business schools come from Harvard Business School. At present, Harvard has included more than 9,000 corporate cases around the world. Among them, there are not many cases of Chinese companies, with only more than 30." Harvard is also cautious in selecting research directions and cases. At present, only household names such as HNA, COFCO, Yili, Huawei, Lenovo, Haier, and Alibaba are among the domestic companies that being selected. "Century Galaxy Group: The Price of Compassion" --- Impact Investment English Teaching Case, is the first English teaching case topped by Impact Investment in a domestic enterprise.
In the view of Professor Qiu Ciguan, “Impact Investment has the nature of double bottom line: financial return + social return. Century Galaxy Group is a for-profit enterprise and should pursue financial return. However, the big health industry it operates and invests can also generate social benefits, such as products and services that generate social benefits, which realize social sentiments and obtain profits at the same time. The Yisheng Health invested by Century Galaxy Group has formed the discussion point of the case through the relationship between the two returns."
